After three weeks of this game Elden Ring players had found some extremely effective ways to break it, using OP builds to slay difficult bosses like Malenia as well as other players participating in Elden Ring Runes PVP attacks. FromSoft was aware but nerfed some of the most popular builds with a huge 1.03 patch that went live within a matter of hours. Now players will have to find replacements for strats based on Mimic Tear, Hoarfrost Stomp, and other previously game-changing items and abilities.
Mimic Tear was the most efficient. It's a Spirit Ash summon found in Elden Ring's Eternal City region, it allows players to summon an exact copy of themselves to go on a fight with them. Since it replicated the exact player's build but controlled by AI that allowed players to kit themselves out with the strongest gear, invoke the summon, and return to their normal mode of play while the replica ran amok in front of them in a way that distracted bosses. This became a standard technique to beat the majority of bosses in the game, including one of the most difficult, Malenia, Blade of Miquella.
In the last patch, however it appears that this Mimic Tear summon's damage was significantly diminished. One user on the Elden Ring subreddit who tested it said the nerf was about 50%. The same time they noted that the mimic seemed to be a bit more intelligent and could dodge more. But it's certainly less efficient in the way it spams powerful spells repeatedly.
Hoarfrost Stomp was another of my favorites. The melee skill that was found close to in the Liurnia of the Lakes had both an impressive DPS as well as damage that was based on the area of impact. Repeated use of it could cause frost to opponents. It was a total crowd control device that was great for farming enemy spawns , and to wreck other players in incursions. The patch that was released last night cut the damage of the machine by a tiniest amount and also increased the time to cast. "I received it just minutes before closing and applying the patch," wrote one player. "Didn't even get to use it. It still ruined people in pvp but not like I got hit by best place to buy elden ring items it last night."
